Valentine's Day On A Budget

Valentine's Day is fast approaching and this year is extra special because Ian and I will be celebrating it together for the first time! Unfortunately we won't be doing anything too extravagant, due to having little to no budget thanks to cottage renovations and two mortgages e.t.c. But you don't have to spend lots of money to enjoy yourself and this occasion is all about being together with your significant other, so I thought I'd share our Valentine's Day plans!
We celebrated early as we are both working during the week! We love our food, so it's only right that we would celebrate with one of our favourite things - cheese! Isn't this vintage reserve cheddar cheese love heart* from Wyke Farms adorable?! Hand-crafted in the lovely Somerset, this gluten-free, vegetarian-friendly cheese is matured for over fifteen months to give it a smooth, silky texture and a gorgeously sweet and creamy taste! This is honestly our new favourite cheddar cheese - simply divine. We paired ours with ASDA's Extra Special caramelised onion chutney and some crackers - perfect!

We ended our evening feast with a Eton mess-style dessert compiled of dairy-free ice-cream, crushed meringue, rhubarb & custard jam and sweet toppings! Then we enjoyed a movie night.

Here are just a few other budget-friendly ideas for Valentine's Day:
a picnic in a country park
Why not go for a romantic stroll in your local country park and treat yourselves to a little picnic?! You could have a homemade picnic with some of your favourite foods or you could indulge in a great value, yet delicious, £3.50 or less meal deal from The Co-operative. There are lots of sandwiches and pasta pots to choose from, along with a chilled drink and a sweet or savoury snack!

a luxury stay at home spa day
Relax and treat yourselves to a chilled out spa day in the comfort of your own home! Use your favourite face masks or get creative with a DIY recipe.

 farm shop frolicks
I absolutely love browsing local farm shops, so this would be a great option! Set yourself a spending budget and treat yourselves to lunch if money will allow.

 garden centre gallivanting
Another favourite past time of mine is raking about in the local garden centre. Ours always has lots of lovely gifts and homeware, as well as sweet treats and pretty plants. Again, if there is a cafe on site, why not enjoy a yummy lunch or an afternoon coffee and cake?

So, what will you be doing this Valentine's?

I hope your day is filled with love and laughter!
